Making sure heavy lifting gear meets the highest standards

Offshore structures operate in some of the most demanding environments, where corrosion, mechanical stress and continuous exposure to seawater impact long-term performance. For BKRS, gaining reliable insight into the condition of critical components was essential to ensure safety and continuity. MME supported this challenge with advanced inspection techniques and expert analysis, enabling informed decisions and a proactive maintenance strategy.

The challenge

Limited insight into internal degradation

Over time, offshore structures are subject to ongoing degradation caused by environmental exposure and operational loads. While visible wear can be monitored, internal defects such as cracking, corrosion or material fatigue often remain undetected until they pose a serious risk. BKRS faced limited visibility into these hidden issues, making it difficult to accurately assess the condition of their assets and plan maintenance accordingly. This uncertainty increased the risk of unexpected failures and inefficient interventions.

Techniques

Advanced inspection methods for reliable insights

To achieve a comprehensive assessment, a combination of techniques was applied:

  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to detect and size internal defects
  • Visual inspections to assess surface condition and visible damage
  • Data analysis and validation using calibrated reference standards
  • Condition monitoring to support long-term performance tracking
UT Inspection MME

Our approach

A data-driven inspection strategy

MME approached this challenge by combining multiple non-destructive testing techniques with expert interpretation. Our focus was not only on detecting defects, but also on understanding their impact on the overall integrity of the structure. By inspecting both surface and internal conditions, and validating findings against industry standards, we created a reliable and complete overview of asset health without interrupting ongoing operations.

What we delivered

From inspection data to actionable insights

MME conducted detailed inspections across critical components, identifying early-stage degradation and potential failure points. Rather than delivering raw data alone, we translated our findings into clear and actionable insights. BKRS received practical recommendations on maintenance priorities, risk mitigation and next steps, enabling them to act with confidence and focus resources where they were needed most.

UT Inspection MME

The result

More control, less risk, longer lifespan

With improved visibility into the condition of their assets, BKRS was able to optimize maintenance planning and significantly reduce the risk of unplanned downtime. The insights provided by MME enabled a shift towards more proactive decision-making, resulting in safer operations, improved reliability and an extended service life of critical offshore structures.
